Scam alert!: Internet Desk: Cyber criminals who are engaged in frauds in the name of gifts and parcels.. Now another new type of fraud has been opened. Scams are targeting Gmail users. By sending fake account recovery requests, various steps are being taken to get them approved by the users. Clicking the link by mistake means personal data is in their hands! IT consultant and tech blogger Sam Mitrovic mentioned this experience in his blog post. It is said that common people can easily get caught in this trap.

What did Mitrovic say?

As part of the scam, a notification is sent to your phone or mailed to your Gmail in the name of account recovery. It comes from another country. Mitrovic stated that this request came from America in his case. If that notification is rejected.. the cybercriminals will execute Plan-B. After a while you will get a call from Google. The other person is very professional and polite. It is believed that a Google employee is making the call. "Someone tried to use your account abroad. If you accept it, you will be in danger'' and they will believe you. They are afraid of its consequences. After trusting the user, they will send you an e-mail on behalf of Google. Actually it is fake. Mitrovic stated that if you do as they say, they will have full access to your Gmail account.

How to escape?

  • Users should be aware of such new scams that are happening in the modern world.
  • Requests in the name of account recovery should not be accepted under any circumstances. Unless you did!
  • Don't believe anyone calling in the name of Google. Generally Google does not directly call anyone other than Business Services.
  • If someone sends a mail in the name of Google, the mail id should be checked twice without accepting it in haste.
